With a quick turnaround and limited resources how could we help HBO up the ante on their New York premiere party for The Defiant Ones?

 
 

We sprang into action to design and develop an entryway experience that would set a perfect first impression for the event guests. We built custom code to perfectly synch a huge array of monitors, drew up plans construction of a makeshift hallway, and started combing through HBO’s project assets looking for inspiration. The Defiant Ones show, which focuses on the fame and success of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine was grainy and brash. The show touched on themes of pushing one’s self and beating the odds. We wanted to highlight the content and also turn guests’ gaze back on themselves -- challenging them to think of themselves in the same context that “the greats” do. Our final product was a flashy entryway experience. Guests pass through a hallway with suspended monitors running a fast-edit of imagery and graphics related to the show. Sometimes in sync, sometimes each monitor’s content running in its own direction. Every ten seconds the monitors would go white, and flood lights would bring guests’ gaze back into the present moment onto themselves and those around them. The result was dazzling. The experience wowed guests as they entered the industrial warehouse space, and provided irresistible selfie material for social media.
