Rise Nation, a series of boutique climbing gyms rapidly gaining fame for their high-intensity, uplifting group workouts, wanted to up the ante even more. What environment could capture this feeling of unbridled energy and provide that little extra dose of energy?
Unifying space, sound and motion, we designed a series of dynamic sculptural ceiling installations that create immersive, ever-changing environments imbued with energy. We started with the idea of actual mountain climbing environments, aiming to replicate the feeling of mind-wandering freedom that the great outdoors provides. Expansive, rythmic patterns, and constantly-changing scenery are the constants. The overall effect is one of technological thrill mixed with a trance-like nightclub energy unmatched anywhere.
Rise Nation guests report a feeling of transportation -- a lighting, sound and energetic experience that lets them get lost in the moment. Leaving a workout, you feel as though you just danced a night away in some fantastical future.
To date our ceilings are installed in 2 cities, with expansion plans set for five more in North America in 2018.
Each specially fabricated cell contains a unique aluminum and komatex component assembled by hand during the installation. Creating sturdy connecting points between the aluminum frame and komatex panels was a labor intensive process that required careful assembly. The whole system is designed in a modular way to be flat packed and shipped easily. The sculpture covers almost 500 square feet of the ceiling and uses about 5600 LED’s. The aluminum frames were fabricated by in Brooklyn and Komatex panels were laser cut using a custom architectural algorithm.
